House to rent in France:
Close to the Canal du Midi, Carcasonne and Mediterranean beaches, Maison de Grandmere is in Pouzols-Minervois, a friendly, pretty village in the Aude region. Although accessible to the Mediterranean, it is not so close as to suffer excessive tourism. This is a working village, famous for its wonderful wines, fine olives and rural honey. 'Real France!'
Maison de Grandmere is a delightfully converted village house in Pouzols village. It is surrounded by vineyards and some lovely walks and yet the Med and other attractions are not too far away. The house will sleep six: one double bedroom (that also has a small child's bed) and a double mezzanine bedroom. The living room also has a day bed which converts to a double.
You enter the house from the narrow village street into the living dining room with the kitchen at the end. There is a feature fireplace with logs provided in the winter. There is a large sofa, dining table and chairs. The kitchen is well equipped with a 4 ring hob, oven, dishwasher, fridge and microwave.
The village is close to Lac Joaures at Homps with its watersports, swimming and restaurants.
Maison de Grandmere is half an hour from Beziers Airport.
This is a region steeped in history with its ancient castles of the Cathars. The Canal du Midi is just five minutes away and the roads are quiet. There is also good river fishing, particularly at Bize. The lake at Homps is ten minutes away. It has sailing and swimming.
Around the corner from Maison Grand Mere, is an excellent shop with a bar. The supermarket is ten minutes from the house but there are lots of vans which visit the village with their fruit, veg and meat. There are fresh markets every day of the week throughout the area.
The countryside is largely unfenced and therefore extensively available to walkers pedestrians and bikers. From the village, one steps at once into the rural scenery, on every side. The Grand Randonnée 77 is nearby.
This village and its castle were destroyed during the 1210 Cathar conflict and was then re-built on a protective hill top, incorporating the original village stone. It is in the circulade style from the 100 Years War with narrow, winding streets.
Narbonne, the most interesting capital of Roman Gaul, is the nearest major town. Through its centre, runs the ancient Via Domitia, linking it to Rome.
