Rental period Rental period: October to March

A traditional charentaise farmhouse with its own walled garden and a pigeonnier.

The entrance hall leads to the sitting room with comfy sofas and armchairs, a grand piano, books, games, television and music player.

The large,well-equipped farmhouse kitchen has large table. Brocante shops have contributed to the rich variety of furnishings throughout the property.

From the kitchen, French doors open out onto a terracotta terrace with outdoor furniture for alfresco dining, and lemon and orange trees.

Up the original staircase which once led to the grain-store for the animals, there are large bedrooms with oak-beamed ceilings.

Bedroom one has a French brass double bed, a chaise longue and an ‘old fashioned’ bath.

Bedroom two comes with a small French double bed, and bedroom three has two single beds which convert into a double, and a french three quarter bed. There is an en-suite shower, toilet and washbasin; downstairs is another shower room with toilet and washbasin and washing machine.

The swimming pool has its own secret garden with ivy walls and palm trees.

The nearest village for supplies is Néré, about 3kms away. Both the doctor and dentist are there as well as the supermarket, butcher, chemist, bank, post office and boulangérie. There are markets, a trip in themselves, at Aulnay, Chef Boutonne, Matha and St Jean d’Angély all within half an hours drive.

We have two restaurants within three kms.

The area is ideal for gentle cycling and picnics; the village is just on the edge of the forest of Aulnay which is in France’s conservation area, or take a short walk and explore what must be one of the smallest and certainly oldest Romanesque churches in the area. The village is surrounded by fields and is rich in bird and wild life .

There are also brocantes (French antique markets) if you’re looking to pick up a bargain.

Countryside swimming. We have a little lake with sand and a café within 20 mins drive
